South Mountain, located in the Sonoran Desert south of downtown Phoenix, is one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. The granite mountains heat up quickly in the summer and are better hiked in Winter, Fall, and Spring; I find myself hiking here at times in the heat though.
My favorite parts of the park are on the western and southwestern sides.
